NAIROBI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Friday announced that it would reopen avocado harvesting for sea exports starting April 2.

Calistus Kundu, acting director-general of the state-owned Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), which regulates the crop sector, said the agency conducted field surveys in early March to assess maturity levels and production volumes across key growing areas.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, major export destinations include the European Union and the United Arab Emirates, with China emerging as a new market.

Kundu said Kenya suspended avocado exports late last year due to low harvests.

He added that all exporters must apply for inspection at least three days before shipment.

The AFA said that, based on current maturity levels in most production zones, harvesting for avocado oil processing will begin on April 30.
