PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan met with Kenya's Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Deborah Barasa to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and forest management.
Both sides stressed the importance of knowledge exchange, implementing sustainable development programs, and strengthening international collaboration to effectively respond to global environmental challenges.
Minister Matevosyan reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to deepen cooperation across various sectors based on mutual interest.
The meeting also addressed the organization of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which Armenia will host in October 2026.
The minister emphasized Armenia's commitment to closely work with partner countries for the effective organization of COP17 and expressed hope for high-level Kenyan participation.
As COP17's presiding country, Armenia encourages all parties to submit their national reports by February 2026 to ensure a comprehensive and representative global assessment.
Confidence was expressed that Kenya, as a key player in climate and biodiversity fields and host country of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will actively support COP17 preparations, contributing to the conference's success.
