It's a development that few guessed could happen but nobody knew for sure. However, in what would come as a surprise for many, the 2018 Intercontinental Cup will not have South Africa in its list of teams any more. Instead, it would be Kenya taking their place. The Kenyan football team has filled in South Africa's shoes after the South African Football Federation stated that they cannot take part in the tournament.

While sports bettors have been disappointed by the event, those in Kenya as well las Kenyan fans are jumping in delight. Now, they can bet on their national team and expect them to win. All they would need, after all, is to join betway now and start betting on everything from player events to match outcomes and win big each time their prediction comes right. It's an easy way to make money if you are really sure about your game and know it from the back of your hand.

The Intercontinental Cup

The Cup is actually a four nations tournament which will be held this year in Mumbai, India. The current sponsor Hero Group has named it as the 2018 Hero Intercontinental Cup, and would be held next month in June, between first to tenth of the month.

The Cup is actually a preparatory ground for the teams who play in it, and for the nations playing this time around, it's a great way to prepare for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup which is going to be held in the UAE. The tournament, which is going to be organized by the All India Football Federation will see four nations taking part in it - India, which is the host country, apart from New Zealand, China and Kenya.

Why Didn't South Africa Play?

The major reason was that the COSAFA Cup is just a few weeks away and the South African National team wants to focus its energy on that event, instead of the Intercontinental Cup. The prior commitments in their schedule means that taking part in the event would lead to player fatigue, which their coach and the administration wants to avoid.

Kenya is one of those teams that can take South Africa's role easily. In spite of being ranked well over 100 right now, the team has got some really talented players, who have played for professional premier leagues around the globe.

It should be remembered that Indian football has been on a recent spiral as well, and they have managed to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup, with the last attempt being at Doha in 2011.

While South Africa won't be playing this time around, Kenya can expect to see some tough competition from China. India's rising star player can still prove to be a threat, especially since there has not been many matches between the two nations and it could be difficult to point out the different player strengths and weaknesses as a result. However, each side will play each other twice in the event, and so we can expect to see improvisations.
