KHARTOUM -- At least 40 civilians were killed Wednesday in Nyala, the capital city of southwestern Sudan's South Darfur State, in airstrikes on a popular market and civilian neighborhoods, according to eyewitnesses and medical sources.

GARISSA, Kenya -- Kenyan security forces have killed four al-Shabab terror suspects and injured several others after raiding the militant group's camp in Garissa County, northeast part of the country, the police confirmed Wednesday.

The police said the security forces raided the al-Shabab hideout in an ambush Tuesday evening and recovered improvised explosive devices (IED) making materials, medicine, and other assorted items. The security forces who received a tip-off from members of the public about the presence of IEDs and al-Shabab in the area found the militants hiding in the bushes, sparking a fierce gunfight. MOGADISHU -- Somali National Army (SNA) backed by international partners on Wednesday killed 30 al-Shabab militants in a joint offensive operation at several areas near El-Garas town in Galgaduud region, central Somalia, officials said.

The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism said in a statement that the operations targeted al-Shabab's hideout areas where the fighters were regrouping and destroyed explosives and military consignments that were being assembled. (Somalia-Counterterrorism-Al-Shabab)
